However, some Mainers say they noticed during the recent foggy weather that there were a lot of vehicles driving with no headlights on.
Pam asked the CBS13 I-Team:
While it is good practice, in short, yes, it is also law.
Most states in some way or another require your headlights to be on during dense fog.
In Maine, under the rules of the road, we abide by the windshield wiper rule and anytime there are unfavorable atmospheric conditions, like fog, where vehicles can't be seen within 1,000 feet.
Maine State Police say troopers have stopped and ticketed nine vehicles for operating without headlights during inclement weather in 2023.
While that is miniscule, that doesn't account for the number of drivers they've warned for headlight violations.
