Teijin Frontier said the fabric exhibits the “abrasion resistance and colour development capabilities of nylon, and the water absorption, quick-drying properties and shape stability of polyester.”

The gold standard of business intelligence.

It is crafted from a highly-deformed cross-section multifilament yarn, which is a filament yarn made by pulling together dozens of single yarns into a single yarn with the raw yarn having a v-shaped highly-deformed cross-section that is said to provide bulkiness and a spun-like soft texture.

The key feature of Microft MX is in its composition of single filaments of polyester and nylon that are achieved through a unique spinning technology.

The evenly blended polyester and nylon filaments are described as contributing to the production of deep, rich colours, while the material itself resembles a finely woven chambray, due to the differential dyeing effects of the two components.

This process is said to have the appearance of an optimal woven or knitted structure.

Six months ago (13 June), Teijin Frontier released a functional material for sportswear and casualwear which featured advanced yarn processing techniques, high-density knitting technology and plant-derived raw materials in the fabric in a bid to combine comfort with sustainability.

Teijin Frontier plans to introduce Microft MX fabric in its upcoming 2025 spring and summer outdoor clothing and sportswear collections.

The company has ambitious plans for the material with applications extending to functional innerwear and fashion clothing. The goal is to achieve sales of 500,000m annually by 2026.

The fibre company noted that while polyester and nylon have been staples in the fashion industry, the integration of their properties into a single material has not progressed — a challenge that Teijin Frontier now implies it is addressing with the introduction of Microft MX.

In August, Teijin Cordley, a player in the high-grade artificial leather sector under the Teijin Frontier Group, along with recycling-dedicated firm WR Supply Inc., unveiled plans to spearhead Japan’s inaugural initiative to recycle release paper in artificial leather production.
